#AccountabilityThinking takes South African Principals to Sweden and Belgium

Four Primary school principals will spend time in Sweden collaborating with the network of Learning Academy Worldwide within Swedish schools during the last two weeks of March 2019.

As a team, they are familiar with each other as they have gathered reguarly for leadership support since 2014. Meeting annually at the Wisehub Summit, they were challenged during the 2018 event to act boldly in the sphere of collaborative sharing in order to extend their knowledge of best practices. They have been visiting each other's schools and have now embarked on a team initiative that will take them to Sweden.

They will be exploring interventions that can provide useful insights to their own learning environments. The planned sessions with Swedish schools will also serve as platform to help promote their own successes as inspiring examples, highlighting practices that can enhance understanding to those Swedish schools and institutions.

School principals will also have an opportunity to seek partnerships with a designated school(s) in order to even learn from the practices within those schools, the priorities and challenges in that school environment, understanding community and how they measure and assess learning.

Additionally, part of the seminars will be hosted with a school that champions innovative special education needs solutions, including deaf education and, so-called, learning inhibitions. This particular school is in a community that have some striking resemblances to the socio-economic challenges faced in South African schools proximated in high-stakes communities.

The visit to Sweden will provide the Principals with:

  • Improved knowledge of good educational practices
  • Established global partners for reciprocal benefit
  • Student and learner exchange opportunities for multicultural benefits and confidence building
  • Leadership insights for innovative wise leadership in the 21st century school
